“National will is the strongest antidote to coup”
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a press conference at the Presidential Complex. At the press conference, President Erdoğan, joined by Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım and Chief of General Staff Gen. Hulusi Akar, made statements on the quelled coup attempt staged by the FETO (Gülenist Terrorist Organization) members within the Turkish Armed Forces.
“DON’T BELIEVE IN FALSE NEWS”
Stating that with its 81 provinces and 79 million citizens, Turkey is maintaining its resolute resistance against the most heinous and dastard armed coup attempt of its history, President Erdoğan said: “During this delicate process we are going through, distortions, gossips and false news are being put into circulation by various sources to baffle and confuse our nation. I request my nation not to believe in these false news and gossips and keep their staunch stand next to their state and government.”
“WE CONTINUE TO CLEANSE OUR INSTITUTIONS OF FETO MEMBERS”
Stressing that the state, together with its President, government, armed forces, ministries and police force, and above all with its nation, continues to stand firm, President Erdoğan underlined: “Our government, as a result of the strenuous efforts of the security forces, is in control of the situation in every piece of the motherland. We continue to cleanse our institutions of FETO members at full speed.”
“10.410 SUSPECTS HAVE BEEN DETAINED”
Referring to the declaration of the state of emergency, President Erdoğan noted: “Turkey is a state of law. Measures that have been taken in the face of the attempted coup are within the framework of respect for fundamental rights and freedoms, democracy and the rule of law and so will they continue.” The president stated “10.410 suspects have so far been detained” amid ongoing operations related to the failed coup, with 4.060 remanded back into custody.
“DEMOCRACY WATCH SHOULD CONTINUE”
“I am requesting my heroic nation, which thwarted the armed coup attempt with its foresight and courage, to continue the democracy watch on the streets until our country gets out of this difficult situation for good,” President Erdoğan underscored and he added: “This incident has shown that the most effective and strongest antidote to coup is the national will and the public.”
President Erdoğan continued as follows: “I would like my people, who have been carrying out this holy struggle since last week without letting the slightest provocation, to show a little more patience and sacrifice. I wholeheartedly thank each of our citizens who have filled up the streets without making any discrimination of ethnicity, origin, political party or ideology. While we are making our preparations to root out this tumour, we shouldn’t give any opportunity to coup attempters. Future generations will never forget the heroes of the anti-coup resistance, including policemen, soldiers and civilians.”
“WE HAVE DESIGNATED JULY 15 AS THE DAY TO COMMEMORATE MARTYRS”
President Erdoğan also announced that “we have designated July 15 as the Day to Commemorate Martyrs,” and he concluded his address as follows: “Turkish nation has once again proved that it is a nation that can write history. I say that ‘let’s continue our democracy watch until the end and crown this success which has been inscribed with golden letters in the history.’ I once more especially request you not to believe in gossips and false news and to trust only the news delivered by competent authorities of the state and security forces. On this occasion, I wish Allah’s mercy upon our martyrs and speedy recovery to the injured.”
